I think one of the reasons I'm burning out on smut is that I've become sensitized to the popularity of some kinds of porn among my fellow human beings and, like situation comedies, I feel embarassed to be sharing the same air as people who enjoy those things. One the clues to this came in the emergency of a new keyword among porn purveyors.

There are the usual ones, "pink," "honey," "BBW," and most people who enjoy their smut unabashedly know what most of them mean. They're keywords along the same lines as the icons on romance novels are for women: a carriage, a badge, a clock, a stork. Same idea, different gender target.

But I've started to see one recently that really annoys me. "Stupid." And it's meaning is more grotesque than you'd think: it means mentally disabled. Porn stills (it's usually stills, so far) in which the actress portrays someone too mentally retarded to even know how to say "no." Usually, I can handle the idiocies of the wretched porn purveyors at the bottom of the heirarchy, but that one just ills me.

Yeah, I know. "Don't look at it." I'm not. I just think it's an ugly trend. And it turns me off that it discourages me from looking at all. I'm starting to understand Fry's comment more and more.

If the politicians ever notice this, I expect them to view with alarm and declare something must be done.

I don't trust them to do the right thing, but in this case I rather hope something can be done.

Maybe lean on the producer over whether or not the performer is mentally competent to sign a contract?

I don't think performers are mentally retarded; I think that's just a role they're playing to get the attention of a target audience.

Yup. It's just an extension of the meme "she can't say no", only one that's even more nauseating than necro porn.

I suspect the consumers are kzinti in human suits: they would breed sentience out of females if they only could.

Well, I've never really been that ionterested in sports I wasn't playing. And since I wasn't very good at those...

The only exceptions I can think of are going to school football games when I was in high school. And since I lived all of half a mile from the stadioum, that can be excused. It was a chances to watch some folks I actually sort of knew and to feel some "school spirit".

Only other exceptions are the Olympics (some events) and very occassionally something like soccer on TG.

I think it's more that we're in the midst of a program to actively breed sentience out of *humans*.... aided and abetted by FedGov, the children of Sam Walton, and Big Oil and Big Pharma.

It's rather scary, that... but then elfs and omahas come along and show us unequivocally that, at least in some cases, it ain't working.

Given what I've got in my head, I don't throw too many stones. But I certainly understand the difference between 'I'm squicked' and 'I'm squicked and judgemental'.

I generally don't do porn.

I think I get BBW, if it means the same thing that TLA means in more mainstream usage. But to me, "pink" is a type of salmon, more appropriately called chum, and "honey" is something I just got at the Farmer's Market last Saturday. Or it's Charles, sometimes, as in "honey, would you give me a hand with this, please?"
