Heather Alexandar at Shakabra Java

Even local celebrities should avoid mugging for the camera. Omaha, Kouryou-chan, [livejournal.com profile] fallenpegasus and I all trooped down to Shakabra Java in Tacoma to watch Heather play. She had just gotten back from being guest of honor at Eurofurence, and she regaled us with horror tales of the Frankfurt airport, which had her dealing with security and a crashed computer that she missed one flight and had to wait an extra day to fly back to the states, so she was more tired than she should have been.

Having been doomed by my physician to a life of relative decaffeination (I'm allowed a little bit, just not my previous dosages), I sipped an herbal tea thing called "Evening Comfort" which tasted of leaves and twigs and listened to Castles In the Air, Come Away, Human Child, and medly of Black Unicorn and White Unicorn, and Kouryou-chan requested Happen'n Frog and March of Cambredth. Since she was the youngest member of the audience, Heather indulged her.

Heather gave a good performance, but she seemed worn out. There were only twelve people total in the audience and the cafe's speakers were giving her a muddy sound she didn't like; the sound guy explained that they'd been rained on recently and that might explain the problem she was having.

I've been happy with the Republic of Tea herbal blends and their decaf options. The raspberry ginger from Yogi Tea also makes wonderful iced herbal infusion. It's what I've been drinking instead of plain water, these days.

You know, once I found White Unicorn on the Songworm website, I wished that I'd been able to get a copy of the recording to slip it into Omaha's rehearsal of her Cabaret performance to Black Unicorn, just to see how far she'd get before losing it and starting to laugh...

I still haven't caught her live. Maybe I'll make it to Cascadia... she's playing there, right?

I've seen Heather twice live, always a good performance. I'm still hoping to see Julia Ecklar live at some point, but she doesn't do nearly as many live appearances as she used to, it seems.

She was better yesterday at the Highland Games. No missing her, either. Flame read hair and Dress Gordon kilt, it could only be Herself herself. Only a 30-minute set, but she saved "March of Cambreadth" to the end, and we lit the place up with it...

Made me want to come out with "Haakaa päälle!!!!" but it would've been entirely out of place... :) (I love that as a battle cry. It's Finnish, and it means "hack them down." Entirely straightforward, nondenominational, and bloodthirsty without actually *saying* "kill".)
