I dreamed I had to train Carson Kressley to use his telekinetic powers to save a small town in Arizona (which, oddly enough, was also right next to the Pacific Ocean) from an immanent attack by government helicopters which were coming to encase the entire town in a giant mound of solid concrete.

I have to lay off the late-night Klondike bars.

*laugh* Reminds me of a dream I had back in January 1991, when _Twin Peaks_ was on the air, and a different Bush was in the White House....

FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper is standing in a clearing on a rocky bluff in San Francisco (Corona Heights, a favorite place of mine), gazing solemnly into the distance... his trenchcoat blowing in the wind... his hair not blowing in the wind.... Next to him is a five-gallon container of gasoline. A few yards away stands a Federal Express guy, waiting, with a rather large box on a hand truck.

And suddenly I understand. Cooper has realized that his destiny is to prevent the Gulf War by committing self-immolation and FedEx-ing his remains directly to Saddam Hussein.

I thought about sending that story to David Lynch, but I couldn't find an address before the Gulf War actually started.

::Hums "Ocean front property in Arizona" at you.::

How is telepathy going to ward off such an attack? Wouldn't psychokinesis be more effective?

I agree with the above poster, eat more Klondikes.

My CD of "Home of the Brave" lists the name of track 4 as "Talk Normal". Or is there another song whose title actually is "I Dreamed I Had To Take A Test"?

The thing about Laurie Anderson is she's so self-referential. I could easily believe that the thing in Talk Normal about the Dairy Queen on another planet was really an in-joke, just like that whole song itself was parodied on Strange Angels as the one that began "I don't know about your brain (dreams), but mine is (are) sort of... bossy (hackneyed)."

BTW, I bought a whole bunch of Mike Oldfield after seeing you list Ommadawn as the current music on one of your entries. (previously I was only familiar with Tubular Bells 1 and 2) -- I like Amarok a *lot*.

You're right, it is "Talk Normal." I was listening to MP3s I ripped from my vinyl (I'm too cheap to go out and actually buy the CDs, and the rip from vinyl is actually quite good) and just winged it on the music entry.

And, I like the way Laurie is, as she herself puts it, "Difficult Listening Music." The kind of stuff you have to think about. Once upon a time, to understand Mozart, you had to listen to a lot of his stuff and understand a lot of music theory to see where he was doing the same kind of thing.

There's a lot of Oldfield that's hard to find and follow. Tubular Bells is one of those things that made him famous because it was the soundtrack to The Exorcist, and not on its own right. He's very much a lyrical minimalist, much in the same musical school as Reich and Glass, although with a much more popular tilt. If you like the lyrical power of his work, another band to seek out is The Penguin Cafe Orchestra; if you can find A Brief History, they're "best-of" album (their lead instrumentalist and chief composer died in 2002), I highly recommend it.
