"What do they want?" I heard someone on the radio asks that this morning following news of the London bombings and the ongoing assumption that it must have been Islamic terrorists. Indeed, both the signature of the attack and the corresponding claims indicate that, by all accounts, men claiming they're motivadet by the teaching of Islam committed these atrocities.

And, if we are to beleive their own words, they want us all either to worship their god, or die at swordpoint.

Every ideology large enough to warrant a label has a tipping point, on the far side of which they make tolerable enough neighbors. It matters not that we can find moderate Muslims (and as for that, see Dr Ahmad Dewidar, hailed by Time as "the new face of Islam," a man received by our President and by the U.N. Secretary General, who gives us one face and yet who in an interview in Arabic to the Egyptian Brotherhood said "Whether or not these events were planned, or pinned on the Muslims, or something else - [it] provided an opportunity for the American government to legislate dubious laws that restrict the growth and presence of Islam in the U.S. The media - most of which is under Jewish control - has helped to spread this perception." (http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/006995.php)). The tipping point of the Islamic reformation has simply not been reached; there aren't enough willing to repudiate those portions of the Quran that call for the killing of Jews and the apartheid of Christians.

In the meantime, when a website says they intend to kill as many non-Muslims as they can, we should take them seriously.

My heart goes out to the people of London. Welcome to the club. Please don't cower the way the Spanish did. Al-Qaeda has no intention of stopping with Andalusa.

Allow me to recommend the Dhimmi Watch blog. I got so sick and tired of constantly looking up and replying again and again whenever someone demanded "cite?!" for Islam's savagry with-respect-to it's stance on unbelievers, so I was overjoyed when a group of people took over the job, and so now I just refer folks to them.

Learn the words "dhimmi", "taqiyya" (or "takeyya"), and "kafir".

Yep.

I know just what you mean. It's as if when one mentioned in a debate that an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, everyone replied with a scoff and and demand that you "cite" the fact.

Anyone who is unaware of Islam's violent strands - in the Koran and even more so in the Hadiths and even more so in it's history - is ignorant. It's up to them to educate themselves, and stop trying to pass off their ignorance as enlightened tolerance.

From Islam Online, Jews as depicted in the Qu'ran (http://www.islamonline.com/cgi-bin/news_service/fatwah_story.asp?service_id=449).

As for the apartheid comment, it comes from the book of Sura:

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

There are those who assert that 9.29 is a relic of history. Popular Islamic clerics disagree. (http://www.islamweb.net/ver2/Fatwa/ShowFatwa.php?lang=E&Id=2860&Option=FatwaId#)

Ok, that's the cite as requested. Thanks.

Of course, the Bible says not to eat shrimp or wear polyester, so I'm justified in taking that quote with a grain of salt...

And considering what some popular Christian clerics have come up with, I'm hesitant about taking any contemporary assertions as "gospel".

There appear to be two camps on this. The scholarly Imams are really severely cheesed off by today's events. The rabble-rousers, the Islamic equivalent of Southern Baptist preachers, are cheering their suicidal bretheren.

I say judge each one by what he does. Check out what he says in Arabic as well as in English, and see what his actions say as well.

Uh, Elf? London has been a member of "the club" since just around the time you were born (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provisional_Irish_Republican_Army). I can't imagine too many British people taking advice from an American to "not cower" in the face of terrorism very kindly. They're settled that point a long time ago.

(Leaving aside, of course, the question of how "electing the government that the polls showed you were about to elect and implementing the policy that government had already promised to implement" counts as "cowering." A stupid policy is still a stupid policy even if Al Qaeda opposes it.)

Quite.

(And a sensible policy is still a sensible policy if they support it.)
