It only took 34,428 words, but I finally (finally!) got Rhia and Polly into bed. Jeez, I only had to kill one of them and court martial the other.

If your characters REALLY DON'T WANT TO DO SOMETHING, forcing them won't result in anywhere near as good fiction as letting them do something else they might want to do instead.

Oh, they wanted to from the very beginning. It's just that neither knew quite how to say it. It took that many words for them to stop dancing around the issue.
