FallenPegasus again stopped by for a customary Friday dinner of fish, this time a marinade of mustard and maple syrup along with rice and steamed broccoli. It was pretty good, not too tough. The wine we tried was a cheap bottle out of Trader Joe's, a Spanish wine which name escapes me. As a flavor it was boring and as an alcohol it was weak. It'll go into sauces, but probably won't get drunk much.
We sat around and chatted, and it's nice to have adults around. I think Omaha goes a little kid-crazy. It was very low-key, the way I like things. After I put the girls to bed and Omaha had made oatmeal cookies for tomorrow, We had to head to bed early, and FallenPegasus wandered home for his own duties.
Saturday, Omaha and I roused the girls because we had to get them dressed and moved out to Kouryou-chan's school for a day of gardening. Breakfast was just cereal; I think I had mini-wheats. We packed all of the tools and headed out.
It was a very busy day. I spent most of it either weeding a given patch along the front of the property along with two other folks, or toting weeds ten gallons at a time across the property to the yard waste pile. Omaha also used me as the gopher, to get tools, or water for the volunteers, or lunch-- lunchmeat sandwiches and chips, and the aforementioned oatmeal cookies. I feel like I burned a lot of calories, but I still need to get back on the exercise horse. I'm not gaining weight, but the tone I once possessed has all faded away over the winter. The girls were helpful, sort-of, but eventually they decided that they just wanted to play on the grassy field next door, and since there were lots of kids there with their volunteering parents they did stay occupied. Yamaarashi-chan was disappointed that the phrase "volunteer work party" didn't include cake and ice-cream.
Afterwards, we went home and were too tired to move. I showered off; the pollen was making me itch. Omaha took a bath, and I camped out in front of the TV for half an hour. Dinner was hot dogs and baked beans because we were lazy, and we let the girls watch their TV. When Yamaarashi-chan's Sonic the Hedgehog was over (Goddess, that was terrible-- you could see the low frame-rate on the hand-drawn stuff) Omaha and I decided to watch a PBS documentary on the preservation of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. It was fascinating; the girls didn't care much, and went up to their room to play with their stuffed animals.
Sunday, we all rose late, and not just because of daylight savings. I made waffles due to popular demand, and then we did housework, changing bedsheets, folding laundry, and cleaning the main bathroom from top to bottom. We also did the monthly Costco run-- and they changed our Costco! They've "rearranged" it, and we don't know where anything is anymore.
I'd love to show you pictures but my camera and my laptop have stopped talking to one another again. Nuisance...
