Saturday was quiet at the Villa Sternberg. We did housework, mostly, cleaning the kitchen and vacuuming the upstairs, while the girls played with each other, usually sociably, sometimes not. It was not the kind of day to write much about. Breakfast was cereal; lunch, sandwiches; dinner, beans & weiners, which unfortunately the girls did not eat. I've come to the conclusion that my children are strange; not only do they not like a diversity of food, they don't like a diversity of kid-friendly foods. I mean, c'mon, what kid doesn't like frankfurters and beans?

Sunday was much busier. After a breakfast of pancakes with raspberries (and we were out of maple syrup, oh no!), we headed out to the Skate King rink in Bellevue, where the girls had a wonderful time learning how to roller skate. I was a little worried that the rink would be filled with kids older than they, but no, despite the "kids 10 and under before 12:30" rule, after 12:30 it was still mostly kids ten and younger. There was this one woman whirling around the track, mid-20's, very buff, who seemed to be using the rink mostly as an excuse to exercise, but other than her it was all families, all the time. We ate lunch there. Yamaarashi-chan was more determined than Kouryou-chan, but Kouryou-chan got the hang of the whole skating thing faster. Yamaarashi-chan laster longer; eventually, Kouryou-chan and I were sitting on the sidelines playing air-hockey.

Then, since we were already in Bellevue, we drove over to [livejournal.com profile] tabbifli's for a little get-together to celebrate her birthday, completely with the whole gang that was usually there. The layout was scrumptious and the girls were well-behaved, and it was nice to lay there on the couch with a cat on my lap and just chat with friends for a little while.

After an hour or so, we did our monthly Costco run, but at a weird Costco where we couldn't find anything. It occurs to me that we've been in four Costco's and ours is a bit idiosyncratic in its layout, which means that when it moves next year into its new space it'll be laid out just like all the rest, and our usual routine will be disrupted.

We took Yamaarashi-chan back to the Windstalkers, then went home. The outdoor weather was miserable, steady medium rain and I was so glad to be done driving in it. We had leftovers for dinner, which wasn't a bad solution.

How's the rink in Bellevue? [livejournal.com profile] mizemm and I went to a rink in White Center for a date and had a lovely time, but the music selection didn't agree with us (it was skewed towards the taste of modern 15 year olds, which appears to mean the nicer variety of hip-hop and none of the 80s dance music we wanted).

It was a mix of both. There was some standard hip-hop and pop, and some 80's stuff mixed in. They were taking requests at the front end. You might get Brittney in one spin and Van Halen the next.
