So, anyway, I'm a little behind in my NaNoWriMo'ing; I'm supposed to be around 16,000 words by the end of the day, but I'm only about 10,000 as of lunch. My characters are talking about things I have yet to have explanations for, but that's okay-- mysteries are just plot points for me to fill in. Maybe this'll even be worth a re-write someday. Getting that cluttered feeling that I get reading O'Brian or Dunnett is really hard when you're making up most of the story from whole cloth. I've also discovered that as I get older I'm happier typing with my eyes closed. Since I can touch-type, this is no hardship. And ever since I've started to type this way, I've become ever-more appreciative of the home key indicators.

Anyway, at lunchtime I managed to get up to a little over 10,000 words and then decided that I needed a break. So I sat back to watch the first half of episode 2 of Mai HiME, and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Last night, after dropping Yamaarishi-chan off at her mother's house I reached those magic words, "This in the end of Unit 47." I'm more than halfway through the spoken-word part of the class. I was supposed to start the written at lesson 31, but I've been a bit lax about that. I really should get back on the lesson plan with the written course, but that's actually a quiet moment I need to fit into my schedule, and I don't have many of those other than commute times.

Still, lesson 47 was about school. Words like "study," "attend," "university," "high school," and "student." So watching episode 2 of Mai HiME was fun; the heroine was having her first day of school and I was actually able to follow along with the dialogue. Although around marker 626 one of the characters says what I hear as tanakiyo, which the translator wrote as "Liar!" The closest I can come up with in the dictionary is tanan ki yo, which is idiomatically "What a pain in the neck!"

I was inspired by your initial burst of 8k last Monday and have been pushing myself to get at least 5k done each day I can work on it. Yesterday I pushed past the 20k mark.

Yes, typing with closed eyes takes away the visual distraction. (I need a new keyboard, though; my home key indicators have all but worn off....)

Good luck on the Nano WriMo'ing!

In reference to Mai HiME, I know one of the characters says "tanuki" which is actually a native Japanese raccoon... like kitsune, I believe they're thought of as tricksters in fairy tales.
