elfsY'know, the Japanese are sometimes just too cool for their own good. Americans might *think* of something, but it takes someone with nothing to lose to actually try it for commercial gain. For evidence of this, check out I-Doloid, a new magazine (warning, a porn magazine) dedicated to "artificial girl" fetishists and love doll collectors. Some of it is waaay creepy.
