When my mom thinks that I've pushed the alternative/weird/strange envelope too far, especially if it involves my, er, 'unusual' sense of humour, I remind her that she and dad let me watch Monty Python's Flying Circus at a young and tender age.
Perhaps, one of the few multi-generational cultural touchstones out there.
