So, yesterday, work had required fun: a barbecue picnic at the beach. Apparently very juvenile, with tons of alcohol even though alcohol is illegal on public beaches. I'm glad I missed it.

Instead, I drove home, gathered up the family, and we went out swimming at a park before an appointment Omaha had at five. Kouryou-chan was an aggressive little swimmer, going back and forth from one side of the kiddie area to the other. It was still too deep for her feet to touch the bottom, so in the hour we had she put a lot of energy out just keeping afloat. But she kept insisting that she didn't need help, so I just stood behind her and made sure she didn't go under. The pool was full of kids-- very crowded, people kept running into us and one heavyset little girl was trying to refine her cannonball. Over in the non-kid sections there were the usual collection of bodies, some quite lovely, but for some reason my appreciation of eyecandy has gone down a lot recently. Not sure why.

We got back into dry clothes and I dropped Omaha off, then Kouryou-chan and I found a little cafe' where she had a cookie and I had an iced coffee, then we walked over to a park and waited. We told each other outrageous stories, where I would start with some ridiculous premise: "Once upon a time, a little girl swallowed a frog..." "Once upon a time, a little girl woke up to find she had butterfly wings..." and Kouryou-chan would have to finish the story. It was much fun.

Omaha was done a little more than an hour later, so we went home. After dinner, Omaha and I just sat together and snuggled; we had so little energy there wasn't much more we could do. Kouryou-chan played outside. Despite all the exercise she'd had that day, she was annoyingly hard to convince to go to bed on time. I cleaned up the kitchen, played a little Opposing Force, and went to bed.

Wow, new JE was great. The first meta-Bulwer-Lyttonism I've seen, utility fog, a beautifuly framed argument against determinism...

In the meantime, we all thought of ourselves as having free will, and
if it was an illusion, it was a damn compelling one. - K. Shardik

Why is it all your great sig quote material is in stories I wouldn't want other people finding via google? ;)

Two little things:

I can imagine being other thing but I just don't take seriously the idea of any of them ever happening.

singular "thing"?

I'm an early prag, Moira

I'm a little confused on the use of prag here. Is he saying he's a prag (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Prag) to Evolution?

Heh. Thank you. I find it fascinating that there is a word "prag" and that it has something to do with sex slaves. No, prag in the Pendor Universe is a somewhat insulting designation: Product of RAndom Genetics. In some parts of the universe, it's a nasty thing to call another because it implies that your parents cared so little about you that they didn't do even a minimal amount of tinkering with your genes.

You're still posting from the future, Elf. Please stop it, or you'll cause one of those annoying paradoxes that'll turn Sweden into popcorn, or something. Please, won't someone think of the Swedes!

I have no idea what happened to my clock, but I've fixed and properly dated the posts I made. And I'm now running openntpd, in the hopes of preventing these paradoxes from happening again.

Heh... For some reason, I have this idea of someone in the Journal Entries universe decompiling another person's onboard software and finding tons of BSD and FSF licenses among the code...
