Dio has rocked for a long, long time. Now it's time for him to pass the torch. He has songs of wildabeasts and angels, He has soared on the wings of a demon.
It's time to pass the torch, You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you. We're takin' you to a home, But we will sing a song about you.
And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of. You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow! Your sauce will mix with ours, And we'll make a good goulash, baby. Dio, time to go! You must give your cape and scepter TO ME. And a smaller one for KG. Go, go! Dio, Dio!
Just last night I was suffering from a similar complaint, sans the Dio. I made it known with a group I was chatting online with. "Al who?" was mostly what I got, though a few folks actualy did have a clue what I was talking about or had at least just heard the song before. That seed had been planted by a friend who was raving about having seen him play just last month, a concert I would've liked to have made it to, the thought brought the song back to the shallows of my memory banks. It would also seem that there are two types of folks, those who don't know who Al Stewart is, and those who have all his albums. Not really much in-between.
It's funny how he's back on a "Year of the Cat" tour. Regardless of how creative your music is, if it doesn't all get mass play, you're doomed to being a one-hit wonder. But if it's just such a great hit that you can capitalize from it for nearly 30 years and still be going strong, I guess that really works too.
Tenacious Elf?
