Mixed feelings...

I'm having mixed feelings about Lain right now. On the one hand, I'm finally making progress on getting the new kernel built and running. She comes up and the kernel and first hard drive are stable, but none of the peripherals work quite yet. We're getting there. I hope all of this is worth it; I'm tired of dealing with RedHat's obscure corners-- places where normal users never go, but when us power users get there they infuriate no end.

I'm also having mixed feelings about Republican Senate candidate Jack Ryan's case out of Chicago. On the one hand it is rather sad that his wife (now ex-wife) felt "pressured" to go to public sex clubs with him. On the other hand, his ex-wife is Jeri Ryan, the borg-babe of Star Trek Voyager... and I'd pay good money to see that happen.

Well, maybe not.

Meh. I gave up on RH's obscurities when it became painful to debug startup and config issues with Apache - and trying to replace the packages after install was just a pain. That's been my biggest attraction to Slackware or FreeBSD, the cleaness and sparseness, allowing me to add/update as I see/need and it's not full of obscurity.

As far as Jack Ryan, when I read about the NYC club with the chains/cages, I instantly thought "Wonder if that was Paddles?" Heh. In all honesty, I don't care and the salaciousness of the alleged activities (since it's not proved or disproved - we could talk about how people use events like that to strike back later...) is the only thing driving the media frenzy. So what if he wanted to fuck her in front of people? I don't care what politicians do in their bedroom (or sex clubs..), I care what they do/don't do in their jobs. If I wanted their sexuality to be a part of the issue, I'd invite them into my bed...

... Hmm. Jeri might be a possibility there. ;)

What a name to have...

I wonder if the name was why he got the nomination.
