Sleepless in Burien
Jun. 9th, 2004 10:06 amUgh. Didn't sleep too well last night. I usually take melatonin before I go to bed, but last night I forgot and was tossing and turning until midnight. I got up and geeked for an hour ("You're gonna die, Freeman!" is now spray-painted onto my retinas) and then went back to bed, only to be awakened repeatedly by Kouryou-chan, who has a headcold and is taking it out on us by repeatedly waking us in the middle of the night to sleep in our bed. I managed to doze on-and-off throughout the night but I think the biggest block I got was a little over three hours, from about 1:30 to about 5:00.
We had Yamaarashi-chan over yesterday, and that was nice. She's a pretty good kid. We had meatloaf with couscous and creamed corn, and I think Yamaarashi-chan has a texture problem; she never eats anything that's warm and mushy. Kouryou-chan, on the other hand, ate the couscous, nibbled at her meatloaf, and was done.
I played a round of Stratego with Yamaarashi-chan, who is getting the hang of the game but slowly, then sent the girls back outside to play while there was still daylight. Our neighborhood is full of kids about their ages and they played on the rope swing in the neighbor's yard while I did more work on the ancient dirt pile. I now have 48 cubic feet of dirt, woohoo.
Happiness is taking the bus and doing much editing on a good sex story, hearing "This is the end of lesson 28," and getting an email from Kinokinuya telling me that a new shipment of Kyokuto Expedient F64 notebooks, size A5, has arrived, just in time as I've killed the last one. Nuisance is leaving my sunglasses at my favorite cafe.
Mark Kleiman has a nice point about the torture memo story: it illustrates clearly who is a "conservative" and who is merely a "right-winger." Proper conservative are horrified by the suggestion that the president can arbitrarily suspend convention and law, and only his self-restraint holds him back from doing so.
Then a detective and social worker made a home visit. "The detective told me if I did not medicate my son with Ritalin, I would be arrested for child abuse and neglect," Taylor said.

Problem?
Date: 2004-06-09 10:32 am (UTC)It may be a texture preference, not a texture problem. She's certainly old enough and, I would hope, experienced enough with different food textures to have valid likes and dislikes. Just because she doesn't like certain food textures doesn't make it a problem; it may make it a preference.
I do not like the texture of sea cucumbers. I don't like that for many of the same reasons I don't enjoy the texture of mushrooms. That's a preference, not a problem, and it goes back to my childhood. On the other hand, I'm allergic to tomatoes, and given how many things have tomatoes in them, that's a problem - for me, because I have to avoid them.
