Okay, I'm gonna confess. I bought something pimped by Queer Eye. I bought Zihr shaving cream. I bought the small tube: 3oz for $12. Damn, that's pricey. That's four times the cost of my usual shaving cream (Alba Botanical), and ten times the cost of the cheap crap you can buy at the supermarket.

The cost is offset by the value. I really liked using it. It was incredibly smooth especially with a decent razor (I use the Mach three-bladed ones). And when I'm done, my skin is really clean. I haven't cut myself since I started using this combo. And looking through Froogle, that seems to be the bottom price. It's not exactly for sale on discount.

Crud. I hate discovering that there's something so excellent out there, that's so damned expensive. The question now becomes: is this step-up in the quality and comfort of a ritual I go through every day really worth the price? Not to mention having to walk into the Bon Marche, where I have a reaction to that kind of branding similar to Cayce Pollard's in Pattern Recognition.

On the other hand, it doesn't help me show up on radar the way Alba Botanical claims their product does: although AB's shaving cream is on its third packaging redesign since I started buying the stuff, the package has always touted the product's ability to "prevent chaffing." I think they mean chafing.

OK, tells you where my head is, the second time thru I read that subject line as "the price of a perfect slave"....

.... says the furry one, who hasn't had a razor on his face ever since his (very-ex) girlfriend told him she liked fuzzy faces.... this was, oh, 1988? It's less trouble, and the rest of the womenfolk seem to like it too. 'cept a few weird ones who insist on their menfolk Roman-style...

:p to the first part, but about the non-shaving isent it annoying when your moustache gets so long you can chew on it? thats pretty much what spurs me to shave. and 1988 wow man you must have one helluva steel resolve. I usually cave after about 3 weeks of non shaving at the most. props on the determination there.

Didn't say I never *trimmed*.... yeah, the 'stache sees the scissors about once a week, and the whole thing gets trimmed (scissors or electric trimmer, depending on mood and motivation) about once a month.... otherwise I'd have it down to my knees, and that's not where I'm going with it... but, no, it's not so much a matter of determination as a matter of (a) knowing what my kind of lady likes and (b) good old-fashioned lazy... and it makes it easy to pack, too; think about the kind of bulky accoutrement a shaven man has to carry around: razor(s) or shaver, spares and/or cleaning stuff for same, cream/gel/Lectric Shave, aftershave, something for nicks... it's a pain in the arse! Me, a toothbrush and paste and deodorant (and shampoo and soap on the off-chance I have to bring my own) in a cargo pocket, and I'm gone.

Dif'rent strokes, though... dif'rent strokes.

hahah well put. I was worried there for just a moment you dident trim either. That would have been a funny picture! although traveling with a razor for shaving isent as hard as you make it out it is most likely more difficult than having to not shave. I guess I have to say lucky you.
