elfsWhile I was waiting for Yamaarashi-chan to go through the whole procedure I was politely asked by the nurses if I would watch a video called "Your Child's Day In Surgery." At one point the voiceover said, "Some parents show their fear, but many try to hide it and put on a brave face, but everyone feels it."
I didn't.
When it comes to big things like surgery, I'm scared before I make the decision. Even when I know I've done everything in my power to make sure I've made the right decision, the moment of making it is always a frightening one, a portentious one. But once it's made, it's made. I did everything I could, and alia iacta est, the die is cast. It's time to move forward and accept the responsibility for the decision. I developed an understanding the possible alternative outcomes and knew the appropriate reactions.
I can understand hope and anticipation, but why fear? You've made your decision-- don't you have something better to do with your time... and your blood pressure?
