Oh, heck. I am without Usenet.
Feb. 11th, 2004 10:01 amIt was lovely seeing everyone last night at Third Place books, even if only for the few minutes I had before I headed home to put Kouryou-chan to bed.
rubylou,
technoshaman,
riverheart,
tygereclipse,
charlesks,
jenkitty,
drakemonger,
jeliza and their baby the
divinemisso, and
kendaer were all there. (Gosh, it almost reads like a meetup). Two people I didn't recognize were
ihgreenman and
singingnettle.
javagoth and
jenk showed up later.
I got home in time to put Kouryou-chan to bed, reading several books to her. She woke us up in the middle of the night twice, which wasn't too bad considering the bronchitis.
I crawled out of bed and headed to work, my head full of wool, to discover as I got home that my Usenet feed is broken. I can get to some newsgroups, but others are listed as "deleted." The list appears to be random-- rec.arts.anime.misc and rec.arts.sf.composition are both gone, but alt.atheism is still available. alt.binaries.earlmiller is gone, but alt.binaries.penthouse is still there. alt.sounds.jpop is available, but alt.sounds.world-languages is missing. Neither adult content or flagrant copyright violation seems to be the cause. I shot a request off to drizzle's support, asking for a WTF.
(I just went and did a check; other than a random scattering of a few other alt groups, everything that comes after "alt.fan.oksana-bayul" in asciibetical order is gone. It is a database rebuild error. I'm hoping support will tell me when it's fixed.)
Kouryou-chan called me from home, saying she was "very sad she didn't wake up in time to say goodbye." I said I was sorry she hadn't seen me leave and that I would be home soon enough. She sounds so weak with her cough, but it's just her voice; physically, she's under the weather, but she's a strong girl all the same.
