Well, I haven't managed to automate the process yet, but I did get my Palm pilot to back up to my laptop via the IR port. Now I can review my ToDo list and Calendar via Evolution. In theory. But it's a start. One of my headaches has always been the lack of any synchronization between these two components.

But the back up took two hours and consumed a quarter of my Palm's battery life. Hopefully, a sync will take less time in the future.

You want to be sure to check your conduits and their settings. If you don't have the 'Backup' Conduit set to do nothing by default, it'll try to back up your Palm, even though you don't want to. And when you're in there, be sure to adjust anything else that you don't want done, and make sure it's set to default that way.

Not setting them to be the default action is a common issue, and is very easy to overlook, because it's not very intuitive if you don't make these adjustments, and see the conduit settings regularly.
