First, SCO has sent a letter to Congress claiming that open source software is a threat to national security and our economy because "people don't pay for it." The economic argument is akin to the blacksmith complaining about the automobile, but Congress understands existing business more than it understands opportunity: most congresscritters are businessmen, not capitalists.

I'm personally insulted by the tone and cant of the letter. It's offensive in the extreme.

A security bug in the Democrat's internal communications network has allowed the Republicans to read the Dem's internal processes for the better part of a year. The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms has seized laptops, desktops, and one Republican server system as part of the investigation, and charges against staffers who knew about the system but did not report the breach are definitely pending.

And finally, in Nigeria, Muslim leaders have been actively campaigning to prevent local children from taking the polio vaccine, claiming that it contains poisons that kill or sterilize or causes AIDS. In an interview last week, one leader admitted that the educated leadership doesn't even believe its own propaganda, they just wanted to frustrate any effort organized by the United States.

Paging Dr. Darwin.

Ah, but good news: Elf's Index of World Mellowness is at six. Not too bad. And that gorgeous woman I put up two days ago is still the most emailed picture. I wonder if she knows? And if she does, how does she feel about it?

Hey, I was tinkering with that image, and if you lighten it up, she's got a fairly radical tatoo on her right arm.... no, you can't really see anything else, but just thought I'd mention that.

I didn't catch that part about the McBride letter. Ah, well, dipstick is goin' down, anyway; he doesn't have the bucks to back that letter.... 'course, a few of our own couldn't hurt.

SCO is the Lyndon Larouche of the software business. They're fruitcakes. Don't worry about them.

Did they ever comply with the order of the judge in the lawsuit against IBM?

I'd love to not worry about them. But there are way too many uneducated people out there who have the ability to make what SCO wants come to fruition, so I have to...to educate them into understanding why SCO is composed of a bunch of fruitcakes.

Did they ever comply with the order of the judge in the lawsuit against IBM?

Not yet (they claim they have, but they really haven't...up to the judge to decide). If you want good updates that are amusing as hell to read, go to http://www.groklaw.com/

The "security bug" consisted mainly of both parties keeping their documents on a shared file share, seperated by the "security" of having a folder labeled "Democrat" and another folder labeled "Republican".

I don't call that "hacking". I hesitate to call it "spying". it's roughtly equivalent to one party was posting it's memos on a public corkboard by the cafeteria, and then complaining that staffers for the other party occationally stop and read them.

uhh oh
