I went to the swimming pool this morning and about 500 meters in I began to feel this nearly irresistable tug to just give up. I was nearing the twenty minute mark. It took me a minute to realize that this was the sensation that usually hit about 400 meters and I only pushed through it, I'd be fine for the next 400 meters or so.
So I thought, "screw it," and went for the next 100 meters or so, freestyle, attacking the water hard and doing an Austrailian-style crawl with my forearms. Big mistake. Something in my right shoulder twigged hard and painful, and I couldn't go on after that. I did finish out the full twenty minutes by doing some kicking, and by the time I'd gotten out of the shower my shoulder was more or less behaved.
I returned home, dressed in my corporate drag, made some good coffee and grabbed some lunch (leftovers from Omaha's grilled pork with peach sauce recipe, yum!), and headed into the office.
There are now less than 11 hours left until I decide whether or not I shall be participating in NaNoWriMo. I haven't decided yet. Friends are mostly against it; last year was a disaster and, frankly, I'm not sure if there are enough ideas in the current block to justify 50,000 words. I'd like to say that 50,000 words in one month is a trivial operation, but it's not. I can easily write 3000 to 4000 words a day, if I have something to write about. If not, it's a struggle to get out even 500 words, much less the requisite 1,667 words needed per day to get NaNoWriMo done. Right now, I just don't seem to have my writing mojo going any more than Donald Rumsfeld.
I also slammed headlong into another brick wall-- I found a systemic error in Plotlines. It'll take some revision to get back on track, and this is just with the modelling code. Ah, well. Maybe I'll write Plotlines for NaNoWriMo instead of actually work on a novel. Still, better to have found it now than when I'm halfway done with the major components of the UI.
