What a weekend. After the bloodbath of Friday afternoon, I got home exhausted and tired. Omaha made a lovely dinner-- risotto with onions and feta cheese. Incredible. It's too bad that I was too tired to enjoy it fully, but after the stress of the day I just wasn't going to be all there. After idling for a little bit, Kouryou-chan and I went to bed. Omaha stayed up a little longer.

Saturday was our busy-to-the-point-of-madness day. I woke up at eight to work on a minor software project I've had, then Omaha awoke and decided that she wanted to cook something new: peaches and cream. It was divine, with warm farina and peaches and tangy yogurt topping.

Then I was off to a two-hour meeting with an acquaintance of mine who'd asked if I could come over and help her with her C++ homework. Man, that sounded like such a come-on but it was completely legit. We discussed Visitor and Strategy patterns, struggled to recall the UML visualizations, and worked on cellular phone network simulations. It was interesting, but by one I was ready to head home. We had much to do.

I got home and we immediately set about finishing up what chores we had because we had to turn around and head back out to a barbecue and Lamas ritual with some friends.

Some of our friends at the ritual.
It was a lovely ritual, and an even lovlier barbecue. They have a gorgeous garden; I can only hope to someday have a garden that nice.

We then hurtled over to [livejournal.com profile] ivolucien's place for his party. It was a peculiar party in that he specifically invited over lots of people with kids, which makes me wonder if he isn't feeling out for himself if he works well with kids. He does, but there's a difference between visiting kids and having them full-time. He had water guns and people shot at each other with them.

Kouryou-chan, soaking wet.
Kouryou-chan had a lot of fun, since there was a big table with clay for adults to play with and she got a lot of that too.

And the people there were all so gorgeous. I felt intimidated, but that's not unusual. Y'know, when you're caught between [livejournal.com profile] animegothgrrl on the left and [livejournal.com profile] damiana_swan on the right, you have every reason to be intimidated by the quality of human beings with whom you associate. On the other hand, my misodemy (not so much a fear of crowds, which would be demophobia, but a viceral loathing of crowds) was pretty much in full force, and my ability to find something (anything) to talk about became more narrow as the time went on. Omaha was very understanding.

Ah, well. At least Damiana Swan gave me a great hug. That's a keeper memory.

Sunday, I awoke early enough to install our replacement satellite box, since the old one had died. The new one's pretty neat as it comes with a 35-hour PVR on it. Omaha's a little worried about it because she forces herself to relax by scheduling a limited number of TV shows every week. Now, since "Oh, the PVR will get it and I'll watch it later," she's nervous that she's going to start missing her shows and never getting around to watich them, or relaxing. It's a different collection of habits to learn. Not to mention a ridiculous number of remote controls to master. But I did get the stereo volume control to respond to the PVR remote, so that's one less remote we need to have all the time. But, we need the TV and VCR remote control to turn the stereo on or off.

One day, this will all make sense.

Then we were out in the back yard for the rest of the day. We dug up weeds, cleaned the gutters on the first floor, and then spent the rest of the day

The compost bins.
moving our compost bins around and cleaning up the remainder. It was a lot of work, and my back is seriously hurting tonight.

But we did get it all done.

Farmer Elf and Omaha.
And, y'know, Omaha would have made on Hell of a farmer's daughter, pitching hay in her jeans like that. Heheheheh.

By the way, if anyone wants some, we've got ten bags, about forty-pounds each, of compost. Just call or write us when you want to pick some up. It's between one and two years old and has been filtered through a one-inch mesh grating to remove large particulates. It's all vegetable kitchen and yard waste, although there are some eggshells for calcium. We can't use it yet ourselves. The retaining wall (just visible to the left in the compost bins photo) for our garden is collapsing and we need to dig out the whole garden run and replace it.

Won't that be fun.

In a little while, I'll be up for quite a bit of compost. I need to get or rent a tiller, and I'll till it in.

Hmmm. Compost. Will have to let you know in a couple days, but I'll probably want one bag.

Have you considered offering bribes (food, fellowship) to get a work party for the retaining wall/garden stuff?
