It was a very busy weekend here at the Villa Sternberg. Omaha and I bought a bed.

Which meant moving the new queen-sized bed out of the garage and into the living room to stage it, then dismantling and moving the king out of the bedroom into the garage space now cleared, and then installing the queen. It was a ton of work.

And when we were done, we realized that the new bed was almost six inches (15cm) higher than the old. It feels like we have to climb into bed, quite literally. It's so high that the nightstands, which used to be level with our mattress, are now far and away. The cat has an adventure jumping onto the damned thing.

We're still getting used to it. My back isn't used to the new mattress, which is single-sided. Omaha and I hadn't expected that. It turns out that bed manufacturers are using much less metal in their springs, but they're also using more springs, to make the mattress, and adding inches of "comfort material" (latex, foam and that terrible "memory foam" stuff), and that's what makes it thicker. Also, having to make only one side human-conformant reduces the cost.

I blame the cat for sleeping poorly last night, though. Haven't been cooking much, although I did make the kidlet Mac & Cheese after her first ballet class of the year, and her first one ever where she's going on toe. I need to make a run up to the massage store to get more oil; I can see I'm going to be giving footrubs for a while yet.
