Return to the slow zone...
Jan. 18th, 2006 07:45 amYes, back to the slow zone. Down where a P2/266 can barely play movies, often with whining from the player that "Your computer is too slow!" Down where there's not enough horsepower to hack my phone, and there's no TV-out on the back of the unit (damn, I am gonna miss that). The battery-management bios is broken, meaning that I have to remember to take the battery out of the chassis once it's full.
But the damn thing is absolutely solid.
What's most annoying is that my Linux distro compensated for the presence of a P3 by building things with the P3 instruction set, meaning that lots of things I rely upon no longer work with a P2, things like my mail client, and my browser, and my RSS newsreader, and my image cataloger. Anything XWindows intensive. I'm rebuilding like mad today, but with only 266MhZ, that's gonna take a while.
Oh, and did I mention that I'm also down from 386MB of ram to 128MB? Bleah.
