So the afternoon company meeting went off without much in the way of bad news. Nobody's getting a raise yet, but nobody's getting laid off either. I managed to get the "idiot-proof" Samba configuration tool to be more or less idiot proof.

On the other hand, I've got Yamaarashi-chan for the next eight days. I'm not sure why other than that her mother seems to have been under an unusual amount of stress the past week. So, since it's Spring break and she doesn't have to be at class, she stays home.

This, combined with the fact that Omaha has her usual Monday evening radio show off this week meant that I would actually get to do the commute by bus all five days for the first time in almost a year. If I planned things right and had lunches planned, that's nearly four thousand words a day I could produce.

But, at the company meeting, we had some good news: we released to manufacture the latest version of our product. Since our company is a startup and like all such doesn't have the cash to be ridiculously indulgent the way startups used to be, we received our usual bonus: a week of paid time off. We got one last year for this, too. So I get a week off, to spend full-time with my daughter, and, perversely, no time to write. I never write when I'm at home. There's too much to do, too many things that I have access to and need to finish up.

My favorite electronic composer of all time, Larry Fast, has gone into the studio and re-recorded and remastered ten of his best pieces. The clarity on Reconstructed Artifacts is amazing. It's nice to actually hear some of the missing nuances and proper bass in Warrior and Relay Breakdown that were muddled on the original, analog recordings from the late 70's and 80's.

"Current Music: The Hampster Dance"

Look, we know you're perverted, but you didn't have to let on just how bad it is....

"Bad" is the operative term here. Gotta admit, it was so cute when Yamaarashi-chan (the five year old) comes upstairs and shouts, "Dad, Kouryou turned The Hamster Dance off!"

And then Kouryou-chan (the three-year-old) stands at the bottom of the stairs and shouts, "That's because it was driving me nuts!"
