Just Go Take A Walk
Oct. 28th, 2022 06:05 amAlthough I rarely watch television at home, being in the hospital there are times when I turn on the tube just to be distracted. And what I see baffles me. Today on CNN a chyron read, “Taking blood-pressure medication could lower your risk of dementia.”
So, newsflash: Exercise can lower blood pressure and reduce visceral fat more efficiently than most blood pressure medications. Newsflash: For most people, exercise is as effective as most common anti-depressants. Exercise reduces the risks of developing cancer, heart disease, diabetes and strokes.
Everybody wants everything to come in a pill form today. Just go take a brisk walk, okay? My wife and I have a routine that involves walking to the cafe for our coffee break, and it’s a 15 minute walk one-way along a modestly hilly route. And you know what? To live a healthier, longer life into middle and old age, so long as you do it every day, that qualifies as all the cardio you need.
