elfsThe recent kerfuffle over Bodega reminded me of an odd encounter I had a few weeks ago with an employee of Redbox.
Do you remember when you could go to the video rental store, and there was usually this one employee who knew everything about movies, and if you said, "I like X, Y, and Z," they'd say, "Oh, then if you can also stand subtitles you'll totally love this foreign film," and they were usually right?
The employees of Redbox are janitors. Half her cart was cleaning supplies with which to wipe down the Redbox kiosk after hundreds of adults and their germ-bearing children touched the screen or wiped their hands on the intake slot.
The other half was a cardboard box with new cartridges full of that week's new movies. I asked her if she was into movies. "Not really," she said. "I watch 'em once in a while."
I find in effably sad that humans have been replaced, twice, again.
