One of the most interesting aspects of The Fountainhead so far is how Rand does a masterful job of showing how Keating's mind works-- and has absolutely no clue how Roark's does. Time and again, Keating is shown scheming, thinking, charisma'ing his way around his fellow apes, and Roark is... just Roark. He's the hero by fiat, and Rand is telling, not showing.

The thing that I remember about reading the Fountainhead, back when Rand resonated really strongly with me, is that I didn't need explanation of why Roark was the hero. I had to understand why and how Keating operated because that was the whole portion of society I didn't get, but Roark? Yeah, I was able to put my own feelings, motivations and goals on him. If Rand had spelled that out, he wouldn't have been the slate I could draw my own subtleties on to.
