Doomy doom doom doom!
Feb. 10th, 2011 10:36 amGlenn Beck this morning, talking about his career: "I don't... I just don't... see how this will end well."
Oh, wait, he was talking about Egypt.
Unless there's a nuclear exchange, I'm sure we'll muddle through, humanity being what it is.

Date: 2011-02-10 08:16 pm (UTC)Glenn Beck? I think he's on his way out. At least of Fox. Maybe, if his depression gets the best of him, of this plane completely.
I can't bring myself to be happy about that; how one guy, and more than that an entire multinational media juggernaut, can come to be so... *hidebound* is the word that comes to mind... continuing down the path of doom even though the light in front of you is enough to bounce of yourself and illuminate the "BNSF" logo and the diesel horn is screaming in your ears and the ground is shaking as 200 tons of prime mover hurtles relentlessly towards you.... but, no, that light must be the sun, it MUST be... GOD says it is! And anyone who says otherwise is a HEATHERN!
Far be it from me to get between him and his Maker.

It all comes down to who replaces him. Will it be better, and did we just go from bad to worse?

Date: 2011-02-10 09:17 pm (UTC)Are we talking the peace of "Operation Cast Lead", 2008? Or of Lebanon War II, 2006? Or of the 2nd Intifada and Operation Defensive Shield?
Or maybe the "peace" of Israel's occupation of Lebanon? Or of Gaza? Or maybe the "peace" of a siege on Gaza?
If you're seeing peace in the Middle East, you've got your TV tuned to an alternate universe.

Date: 2011-02-11 12:34 am (UTC)- The new Egyptian VP used to be Egypt's Main Torturer, and is known for being especially cruel and sadistic.
- Coptic Christians encircled a group of Muslim protesters one of this past Fridays, to protect them while they were praying. That struck me as a show of unity and returning the favor from last December. "You had our backs, now we have yours," it seemed to say to me.
- The Muslim Brotherhood has been shouted down by others, chanting, "We are All Egyptians," at them.
- The protesters come from all walks of life, and many age groups.
- Some of the captured looters evidently had IDs revealing them to be members of the Police and/or State Security apparatus.
- Protesters inciting or committing violence, when detained by other protesters were also members of the Police and/or State Security apparatus, by their IDs.
So, at least for now, Egypt is looking very much like the Phillipines when they drove out Marcos.I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
