Nine years later and NOTHING has changed.

I so need a shrill icon.

also, you are sadly right. x_x

Do you follow Dan Carlin's history or politics podcasts? his history stuff is fantastic, and his political stuff raises some excellent questions, even if i'm not always resonating with how he sees things.

He spent a while in journalism, was recently railing at the coverage of the midterm elections, (http://www.dancarlin.com/disp.php/csarchive/Show-187---Misunderstanding-the-Results/Obama-Republican-Democratic) and how every pundit got it wrong, that the GOP win wasn't because of obama overreaching, but because he didn't take go far enough, and fight battles to change and reform the broken system, but instead just participated like every other politician out there. In the process, the folks who voted him into office in a landslide just stopped giving a shit.

Until someone says "This is more important then reelection" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_1cJsQNsP4), nothing will change.

I love that Bruno clip from West Wing - and would love to hear it shouted out.

*standing ovation*

I don't agree with *everything* there, but the vast majority of it, including, most importantly, standing up for principle....

This definitely needs to go viral again.

I can't blame Obama all that much for "caving" on legislative issues; for that I blame Senate Democrats, for whom Bruno's rant is more appropriate. What's Obama supposed to do? Fight the good fight when he knows his party won't have his back? If he had the approval rating to cow them (or campaign for them), maybe, but the unpopular decisions he's had to make removed that option.

This is a problem of party organization, and the fact that the Democrats are currently housing quite a few refugees who would be centrist Republicans if the GOP hadn't completely lost its marbles.

Now as for Obama's abuse of executive power, that's a different story.

Any of those abuses of executive power are just the consequence of power-grabs by previous administrations.
