Fast food is decadent. It's carefully tuned to hit the high points of the ape experience of eating-- salt, fat, sugar. Even the bun is optimized to remind your ape self of the pleasure of tearing flesh without much resistance, while the sauce is laced with smoke-flavorings designed to trigger the atavistic memories of meat cooked over a fire. If that's not decadence-- putting all of the pleasures of raw eating into one obscenely dense package, leaving out nothing, what is?

There's no strawberries in fast food! I want my strawberries! And broccoli!

I'm sure that while apes at nuts, they didn't eat yogurt. ;)

Ugh...I succumbed to a 2for1 chicken offer on a billboard today.

When I hesitated before giving the dogs the mostly untouched sandwiches I realized just how bad they really are.

As bad as they are, I'm still somewhat enamored of BK's egg-and-cheese croissanwiches. Granted, they're better than most of what's on the menu, but there are better options out there (Noah's eggmits are a guilty pleasure I don't get often enough, as there aren't any Noah's Bagel shops in our immediate vicinity). Heck, even many Subway's have an egg/omelet sandwich that is both tastier and healthier than Burger King (and is available all day, as opposed to only before 11am).

Dammit. Now I'm hungry.

Eating lingeringly, without worrying about getting back to hunting/gathering or avoiding being eaten. Making it dense and portable makes it trail-food.

Actually, I have a theory that fast food takes advantage of people at their weakest moment - when they're hungry *now*. As a result, people aren't terribly picky about quality at those moments. An empty stomach being the best seasoning and all that.

It seems they also are set up to make people (or at least me) think their hunger is mire of a crisis than it actually is. I've walked in slightly hungry and willing to take bk as the best of bad options and found myself starving before I could get to the register.
