So, it seems that the fall off my bicycle has claimed another victim: my left ankle. A tiny chip where the medial malleous meets the anterior tibula is torn off the tibula, resulting in swelling, pain, and a loss of lateral stabilization in that foot.

Unfortunately, that means that I can't go hiking or do any serious walking for the next four to six weeks.

When I went to get my ankle x-rayed, I noticed that they were very serious about making sure pregnant women notified the "technologist. There were nine posters and placards telling women to notify the techonologist about a potential pregnancy, seven in English and two in Spanish.

I was also annoyed by the use of the term "technologist." "Technician" too close to "mechanic," maybe?

Probably specifies a higher level of training - the college i went to actually had two levels of courses, a 2 year technician program, or by taking the third year you were a technologist. There is also a recognition/'professional' organization in ontario that certifies technicians/technologists.

In the UK the term is "radiographer". It's a 3 year course* with a college that specifies the syllabus, oversees the exams. Once you have your diploma, you then get to pay a state registration fee which is renewable on a regular basis.

*There used to be 2 tracks: diagnostic and therapeutic. There might be another one now to deal with MRIs and nuclear medicine. I qualified in 1971 and haven't worked in the field since 1978.

Apron reduces risk of creating mutant superbacteria inside you--they have genetic material. :-)

The bones are the tibia and fibula. Terminology aside, sorry to hear of the injury.
