The next logical step is for Andrew Brietbart to claim that Shirley Sherrod herself created the edited fragment of her speech to the NAACP and emailed it to him in order to make him look bad and to raise her own profile in the media.

His followers will believe him, of course.

Never forget, all news agencies engage in lying, but only Fox News fought for the right to lie to the viewers, and won. (http://www.relfe.com/media_can_legally_lie.html)

Breitbart is an asshole for sure, but this is really the fault of all the people (in the media and in the government) who took him seriously. The ACORN stuff was bad enough (even Jon Stewart took the bait at first), but...again? Seriously? It is sad making.

Unfortunately, the new online media is locked in a race for the next big news score. With the new shortness of the media cycle being measured in minutes rather than days, I think such rapid rushes to judgment are likely to occur more frequently.
