So, after a long, hot day of hacking, manning the garage sale, and otherwise enjoying summer, I had to make dinner. Omaha is off at some political thing this evening, so making dinner fell to me.

I grilled some pork on the grill, after coating it in a mixture of canola oil, chili powder and garlic powder. While it was flaming, I balled out a cup of watermelon and a cup of honeydew melon, then mixed that with one minced shallot, some cilantro, salt, pepper, lemon juice and seeded jalapeno. (It had to be seeded, or Kouryou-chan wouldn't touch it.)

After taking the pork off the grill, I let it rest for five minutes (thank you, Alton Brown, for teaching me how to cook meat properly!), then sliced it against the grain into thin bite-size portions. I spooned a cup of the fruit salad into a bowl and layered the sliced pork on top.

The kids actually ate it, although I used a bit too much cilantro. (You know what would go well in that salad? Jicima and cranberry. Cranberry goes really well with cilantro, and Jicima and lime get along just great.)

After dinner, and with a ton of watermelon left, I made frozen watermelon margaritas:

2 cups watermelon
3 shots tequila
½ shot Cointreau
½ lime
1 tbsp. agave syrup
2 cups ice.

Put everything except the ice into the blender. Blend smooth then put in the ice and, again, blend until smooth.
