Today is the first day of summer. You wouldn't know it by looking outside.

We had a very mild winter-- rainy, mostly, but never terribly cold. Then came March, and that one beautiful week when we were able to go about in shirtsleeves. After that, one absolutely bitter week of freezing cold, and then more winter. Rain, temperatures in the mid-40s.

Today is the first day of summer, and we haven't had more than one or two days of sunlight occasionally punctuating weeks of rain, clouds, and miserable cold. We never had a spring at all, just a miserable continuation of the winter season.

It's beginning to get to everyone. I'd bet that some people are in rage, but most of us are in depression, and until the sun actually comes out acceptance just is never going to be part of the mix.

Whereas here in MN we had summer way back in March and April, and then it got cold and wet when spring finally showed up.

Aah, you were on the same schedule as Maryland then.
April and May swapped places and now we're having a rather warm (but not ridiculously) June.

Winter was too mild, there wasn't enough skiing, but spring's been nice so far.

And if you tempt the Fates into giving us a summer like the one last year, I'm going to stake you out in the 110 degree sun.

Seconded on the fate-tempting threat. That was way worse than now. We still get sunbreaks in Junuary, but there were no airbreaks in the monstrous baking chamber that was the PNW last year.

What do you expect from a Florida boy? ;p

Though from the last 2 days, I think he musta worked some kind of mojo, the brat.

I've been enjoying the normal spring weather. Ok, a few more sunny days would have been OK, but I like this weather.

But now it is summer, and hopefully the sun will come out for the rest of you. :) Just not too much, or too hot.

I hope the sun came out down south where you are. Here in PT it has turned from overcast & 52F to quite balmy & sunny between the time I went out for my walk (with jacket & scarf & no backpack to put them in.)

It's been cold and wet in Eugene, too, except for a couple of sunny days. Today there's this big yellow thing in the sky, can't imagine what it's doing there all by itself.

It's hard for a transplanted Californian to enjoy a Solstice party when she's wearing a jacket, hat, and gloves, wishing she'd put on her thermals. But today is supposed to be sunnier. And who knows? Maybe Autumn and Summer have traded places, like Winter and Spring did.

I know the solstices and such are based on astronomical events, but I've alwasy felt "holidays" such as Beltaine should be held when the weather is *right* and not when someone back in England/Ireland decided it was right for them.

In the PNW it seems to me Beltaine should be about now and the solstice should be about a month later. But that's just me...
