Omaha and I took the kids to see Toy Story 3. It was simply amazing. They did a great job of carrying the story forward and making it worthwhile. The animation has significantly improved, and there are moments that are truly terrifying. This is not a movie to which you should bring children under 5. This is a movie for kids who were kids when the first film came out.

But, amazing.

Something that was moderately disturbing to me as a concept was running across the "blooper reel" for Toy Story 3 (I think; might have been Toy Story 2). While watching the bits were entertaining, it struck me that the whole concept of 'outtakes' goes out the door when the whole movie was rendered on a bank of computers after the action was animated on still more computers; there are no outtakes for them to assemble a blooper reel from. It's an interesting commentary on the culture of CGI animators that they'll do all the work of animating the film and the extra work necessary to have a collection of 'outtakes' to make a blooper reel, just because blooper reels are funny.
