Psycho Breakup!

Don't you hate it when, in the middle of a break-up, your ex goes crazy and starts breaking your stuff? Omaha had that with her Mac G5, and now that I've told Firefox it's over, all of my Firefox-related software has stopped working. Most of that's irrelevant; I don't need the help engine and don't use Galeon anymore.
It is not acceptable that Liferea has stopped working with the cryptic "Exception in moz_()" message. Dammit, how will I survive without my news fix? This thing has more or less replaced the hole in my existence where Usenet used to live, back when Usenet was relevant.
I hadn't even done anything to actually, you know, delete Firefox or any of its components (MozDev, Xulrunner). I just haven't started it in a day or two.

Date: 2010-03-12 08:38 pm (UTC)I just remembered back when I upgraded my distro, which brought Firefox to v3.5 (up from 3.0). Several extensions that used to work, extensions that were supposedly compatible with Firefox 3.5.*, totally borked Firefox in various, non-obvious ways. So did several themes.
More specifically, they borked Firefox because they ceased playing well with certain other extensions and/or themes. It was maddeningly annoying to debug.
Worse, it wasn't like I upgraded the day the v3.5 came out. I waited. I waited a good 3-4 months before upgrading my Linux distro, as I always do, to wait for 11-hour bugs to shake out.
So I wonder how much of this is Mozilla, and how much is solipsistic addon developers.
Update Liferea
Date: 2010-03-22 11:40 am (UTC)Try the current Liferea 1.6 that uses WebKit instead of xulrunner.
