I wish I could say I know who said this:

There was a time when America was full of itself, arrogant and complacent. Indie and Punk responded by being angry, confrontational, and challenging.

Now, America is angry. But it's not just angry, it's angry and stupid. The only correct response is to be smart and serene.

Yet, we've never been more highly educated than we are today. So, I don't think "stupid" is the right word. Perhaps "confounded" instead, by how complexity has outstripped our ability to deal with it.

Also, whenever anyone makes a judgment statement like that, a next question is "you're including yourself in that, right?" If not, you know you're dealing with an egotist who believes themselves among the smart elite who possesses special insight, and one can then weight their pronouncements appropriately.
