What I want to know is why should pregnancy (or pregnant naked torsos) be disturbing anyway? Surely it would only be disturbing to someone who has a phobia about pregnancy?
Shouldn't a "normal" person find pregnancy at the very least to be mundane, if not beautiful?
What are the ad's creators trying to say? That human reproduction is "disturbing" per se?
I think the key here is the age of the model - pregnancy of a fifteen-year-old ought to be disturbing, so they crafted an ad to deliberately conflate uncanny-valley disturbance with too-young-to-be-pregnant disturbance.
Sigh. When I see a pregnant teenager, my hyperactive imagination tends to go into overdrive about what's going to happen to both mother and child.
Also, I'm not among the demographic which finds pregnant women incredibly attractive. Apparently Robert Heinlein did, to judge by his panegyrics to them throughout his books. Admittedly, more of the pregnant women I've known have developed acne or crippling migraines than a "glow" during pregnancy, and more than a few of them have had to take to their beds because of eclampsia risk or other complications.
Pregnant boy (http://images.google.com/images?q=pregnant%20boy) on Google Images works wonders. There are three different versions, plus a second 'shop of this one, posing on the ground.
Somehow, the lack of Photoshop makes it look like a guy with a pillow under his sweater. The photo above, with its exceptionally beautiful boy and the distended belly, really hits the uncanny valley floor.
