I cleaned out my cell phone and discovered that I had two blurry, unfortunate pictures of the gaggle of Japanese girls who had descended on Westlake Center a couple of weeks ago. It's like sightings of bigfoot:

A gaggle of school girls.

Oddly enough, not really. Okay, sure, it's kinda cute to have a bunch of squealing Japanese high-school girls going around, and the uniforms are rather startling in this era of American individuality, but they were otherwise so ordinary, so mundane, that I felt a little let down. The baseline comeliness, tainted with acne and bad hair choices, was (surprise this, not) nothing like the fantastic visions of exotic loveliness with which we're pelted from such venues as j-pop and JAV. It was underwhelming.
