I had a bit of neuroses last night and didn't sleep well. My previous employer was a day late with my last paycheck and I'd been up wondering if something had gone wrong. It was completely irrational, but telling myself it was irrational didn't help.

This morning I had an egg sandwich with bacon, and for lunch I had bacon, lettuce and tomato. Like I said, being unemployed has its perks, bacon being one of them. Getting little sleep last night, I had little energy for doing the resume job search thing this morning, but the last paycheck did show up this morning so I got the unemployment insurance issue cleared up. I learned that the one interview I've had was a let-down; "[Interviewer] liked you a lot, but you're missing a few key elements in your skillset that we need." Bummer, that.

While I was eating lunch, Omaha came and sat down at the table across from me. I asked her something about the upcoming paperwork and she looked at me kinda funny and said, "What are you talking about?" I reminded her that we had scheduled time after lunch to talk about something and she said, "I don't... I mean... I don't understand what you're saying." Her mouth was slightly askew, and I recognized all the signs of the post-seizure state. I led her back to the bedroom and put her to bed. She came out twenty minutes later, insisting that the seizure had happened around 10. "But sweetheart, we watched The Daily Show." I pointed to the clock. "That was only half an hour ago."

She was really discombobulated, but after a while we took a walk around the neighborhood and she felt much better. Well enough that when we ran into a union organizer in our neighborhood she couldn't resist politicking with him. We walked to the drugstore and got our last insured doses of allergy meds, and then went home where I turned my attention back to designing her website. So far, so good. Ripping apart templates and re-arranging them in lovely monochrome. I went with a kind-of pebbled header based on the old, grainy macbook ads, but I think I'm going to with something sleeker and more modernly Apple-y.

Took a bike ride with Kouryou-chan around the neighborhood, where she learned that there are two other kids from her school living nearby. We followed almost the same path Omaha and I took after lunch, except we rode down and around the fire station and up into the wooded area between the neighborhood and a busy road.

Dinner was leftovers because nobody felt like cooking. Kouryou-chan spent much of the evening outdoors with the neighbor's kids while Omaha rested and I finished off the fourth book in the Lost Fleet series. Thank the gods for libraries. I understand the fifth book is coming out in hardcover.

It's an anti-tl;dr technique. The bold words will catch the eyes of people who would otherwise glaze over at a long block of text, encouraging them to double-check the impulse to move on.

I think bacon is its own excuse for being put in bold. :D

Don't get too discouraged by the, "…you're missing a few key elements in your skillset…" response, Elf.

Most firms are presently on what a headhunter once described to me as, "A Unicorn Hunt."

That's Not Your Fault. I'm certain that you know that mentally. Companies are being picky. Companies are being unrealistic. But emotionally… it's Not. Your. Fault.

I find this kind of distracting.

Why not go all the way and make some of the words animated gifs? :-)
