The Crazies Just Aren't Crazy Enough
Apr. 7th, 2009 08:01 amI can't help but wonder if I'm experiencing the phenomenon known as accomodation, when it comes to reading far-right websites. Nothing we say or do is ever going to change the craziest of the crazy, and there are very few brain cells left over there. The news load was very light this morning, so I decided for fun to head over to the Free Republic, the epicenter of right-wing madness, and see what was what with the crowd there.
It's the same. Obama's declaration that America is "not a Christian Nation" surely drove them into a tizzy, even though that is the law of the land and has been for over two hundred years, including at leaslt one sane voice pointing out that it was re-ratified in 1796 with the Treaty of Tripoli, and the moonbats countering that the translation is "wrong" and the treaty "invalid." There are declarations of violence against our President, and wishes that God would strike him dead, and so forth and so on. There's a lot of that: article after article about the illegitimacy of the Obama administration, rife with bizarre conspiracy theories. Comparing the Free Republic to Daily Kos is a bit unfair: the Daily Kos's editors don't let insane conspiracy theorists control the headlines.
The "Homosexual Agenda" folder is as vast as always, mostly ranting about how Iowa is about to become a breeding ground for perverts and pedophiles. There's the usual whining about companies recognizing domestic partnerships and civil unions.
But it's all so boring. Maybe I've just grown inured to it. And maybe I'm out of outrage as readily as I'm out of a job this week.

Date: 2009-04-07 04:57 pm (UTC)I'm sorry to hear about your job. That makes you number 8 of people (that I know of) who have lost a job since this stuff started. I hope you find something soon.

Date: 2009-04-07 06:37 pm (UTC)You just have to boggle at the extremity of sour grapes attitude which leads someone to blame "activist voters" for losing.

Date: 2009-04-08 10:50 am (UTC)It was a tinfoil-hat thing for Kos and his diarist to say, what's worse is their continued defense of it as "not (meant as) a joke," etc. Despicable stuff.
