The kink community has an enemy.

Almost every kink community in the US is now on the Internet, and now has its own collection of forums, outreach programs, and community events calendar. Monitoring all of these "public" events has become far easier for the finger-waving mavens of morality and now the kink community faces a great challenge.

The organization Americans for Truth about Homosexuality has decided that deriding homosexuals isn't enough. They've declared war on kink and polyamory as well, and are publicizing every public event of any appreciable size in the hopes of discouraging hotels and other conference centers from renting out space to swingers and sadomasochists. (Isn't that a hot pic of Tristan Taormino on the cover, though? You'd think they were trying to sell the whole librarians-into-sodomy fetish.)

I'm fascinated by how this will all play out. All I know is, I'm going to try and head out to my favorite kinkspots more often this year.

We have a pretty anti-kink government here in the UK, and I know of one group which vanished from the web, near to me. I do wonder if the local population is big enough.

Or, alternately, they've failed at abolishing homosexuality, so they're going to look for a (hopefully less numerous or less organized)different minority to pick on.

I expect they'll fail. And besides, this is hardly the first group to target poly or BDSM as bad.

Like homosexuality, this will serve primarily to publicize the fact that there ARE such communities. Those who want them will then be able to seek them out.

One wonders what one might find if one did a search on these people -- several of whom seemed to join or expand their roles in the organization after losing their jobs for their anti-gay activities.

It would also be instructive to do a search for the IRS Form 990 for the organization and see who funds them and how much these people are paid.
