Brains: God Is In The Details

- Trinity Broadcasting documents it's own staff assisting in the violation of military regulations
- TBN has a show, "Travel the Road," which follows two "extreme" missionaries out to promote the Christian Gospel in dangerous corners of the world. In a three-hour segment they interview a military chaplain "delighted" with his opportunity to preach the Gospel to Afghanis, and shows US military personnell illegally assisting the missionaries in carrying out their practice.
- WND: Will Christian mom lose daughter to lesbian?
- This has been all over the intarweb this morning: the Supreme Court has denied Lisa Miller cert, meaning that she has no more courses of appeal in the ongoing battle with her former lover, Janet Jenkins.
Miller "converted to Christianity" a year and a half after signing a co-adoption agreement with Jenkins over Miller's daughter, Isabella, who has always known Jenkins as a co-mom. Miller moved to Virginia, figuring it more hostile to homosexuality than Vermont, but the law requires states to honor parenting agreements in the state in which the agreement was cut, and Miller's attempts to cut Jenkins out of Isabella's life have been repeatedly rebuffed.
WND's headline, of course, would have us believe that Jenkins is "a lesbian" only, and not a parent for Isabella. Gotta love them family values. - Congress declares war on war on Christmas.
- A non-binding resolution, of course, recognizing the "importance of Christianity" to the peace of the world (hah!), Congress resolves that it "rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians in the United States" (file under WTF?) and "expresses it's deepest respect to American Christians." Wait, did I miss a meeting?
PZ gives us a list of the idiots who signed on. I hang my head that at least one of them came from my state.

But I WILL say, I'm fucking sick of "Judeo-Christian." I've never heard a Jew use that term, and despite sharing a book, the cultural assumptions manifest in Christianity and Judaism are quite different. Probably as much so as for non-Torah religions, I'd guess.

Date: 2008-12-16 05:28 pm (UTC)During the election, I was researching the three candidates for state representative in my area. The incumbent's website was mostly useless, the most informative bit on it just pointing to the Thomas website, listing bills he's the sponsor and co-sponsor of. And I saw, for every legit bill to do something, 10-20 bills like this.
I haven't gone into great research, but it seems like this is what the House is good for anymore. So, alas, I am totally unsurprised. Other 'bills' that I saw were congratulating the team that won the Super Bowl, welcoming the Pope, congratulating Brett Farve for making it into the hall of fame, recognizing (I think) the Automobile Industry for its contributions to the economy...
