Saturday and Sunday
Nov. 30th, 2008 09:22 pmSaturday and Sunday followed a nice arc. Saturday, Omaha and I and the kids drove up to Shasta & LSB's place where there was more turkey, more stuffing, more relatives. There was even pork loin and really, really good mulled wine. We chatted until not too late in the evening; dinner was on the table around 3:30 or so, and by seven I felt like I'd lived an entire day already. It was time for bed.
We drove home in the rain, and immediately went to bed. Omaha and I played a few rounds of rummy while the girls were pains in the neck and refused to follow the adult plan of going to bed on time. We had to shout "shut up!" a few times while they whispered and chatted among themselves.
Sunday was our monthly Costco run, followed by my taking Omaha to her bi-weekly game night. In the interim, I practiced web design on the Gimp, doing a very simple four-panel layout with an automargin background. Kinda fun, although I'm still struggling with the relationship between layers and paste events. I'm still thinking that my simple planner has only six views and nine controllers, with four models, so it should be relatively simple to lay out once I've got it in motion.
While we were at Costco, I heard one woman running a sampler cart say in the most monotone and bored voice possible, "Come try these delicious, uh..." and she held up the box of stuff she was pimping and rattled off the contents of the box. It was odd the way she didn't care about it.
I made Macaroni & Cheese, the good kind with home-made white sauce and I even snuck in some blue cheese (the girls didn't notice; in fact, they both had second helpings).
I thought my evening would be calm, but no, life took a disastrous turn when the upstairs toilet overflowed. I had the valve off in seconds and the carpet cleaner, which has a powerful wet-ready vacuum on it, out seconds after that, but it was still a disaster. Kouryou-chan mopped the floor and Yamaraashi-chan cleaned up the wet towels on the floor. That was gross. I let both of them use my shower for cleaning up.
At least I got Yamaraashi-chan to finish her homework, but, man, I am sick already of her singing the refrain (and only the refrain) from some Disney boy band over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
