The New York Times: Another Victim of the Downturn?
The picture looks pretty grim for the Times: $46 million in cash, and $366 in outstanding debt owed to it, for $412 million. On the other hand, the NYT currently has $398 million in short-term debt due in May, and $467 million in monthly operating expenses. At its current rate, when that debt comes due in May, the NYT will be $453 million dollars short of where it needs to be to stay alive. The article, which is certainly cherry-picking some of its data, goes on to say that its long-term prospects are dim.

OneNews: Lesbian custody battle continues
Lisa Miller and Janet Jenkins continue to battle over their daughter in common. Remember, Miller converted to Christianity when the child was 2 and then district-shopped for a court that would let her deny her partner parental rights. The courts slapped her down. Now she's pulling the typical angry parent crap, and the courts continue to slap her down. OneNews tries to paint this as a victory for Miller because the court didn't impose a financial penalty. Obviously, the person who wrote this has never been in a custody dispute.

OneNews: Teens 'further away from God' than ever.
Thus said the silliest of the Baldwin brothers, itinerant preacher Stephen. But you have to go look at the illustration. Where are his eyes? Auuugh! Where are his eyes!?

Evangelicals blame technnology for their porn addiction
Money quote: "The Religious Right's attack on pornography may have less to do with their distaste for it and more with the fact that it is maxing out their credit cards."

Ann Coulter @ Townhall: Obama is a robot under that human flesh!
Indeed, the only good thing about McCain is that he gave us a genuine conservative, Sarah Palin. He's like one of those insects that lives just long enough to reproduce so that the species can survive. That's why a lot of us are referring to Sarah as "The One" these days.

Like Sarah Connor in "The Terminator," Sarah Palin is destined to give birth to a new movement. That's why the Democrats are trying to kill her. And Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved somehow, too. Good Lord, I'm tired.
Get some rest, Ann.

Indeed, the only good thing about Palin is that she demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt the intellectual and ethical bankruptcy of today's dominant "conservatives." It's almost worth supporting her -- maybe if they do continue to rally around Palin's leadership (really, figureheadhood), hopefully that bankruptcy will continue to be obvious to a majority of the electorate. It's a gamble, though, on the electorate's ability to perceive the obvious.

I don't usually laugh at Bill Maher (he's no Jon Stewart), but I did chuckle when he cited a survey that said 80% of Republicans hope Palin runs in 2012...and 100% of Democrats hope the same thing.
