When you think of controversial comic strips, 9 Chickweed Lane does not immediately come to mind. And yet, for the past couple of weeks the strip has been, um, adults only. If not in art, at the very least in content. For one thing, Edda and Amos have suddenly discovered they can't keep their hands off each other, and then artist Brooke McEldowney used an entire day to draw a two-panel sex scene between Francis and Diane Edda and Amos that appeared in newspapers all across the country:



Yes, please. More of that. No, really, I'm not being sarcastic.

Yeah. Somehow, I got the impression that McEldowney was trying to do a compare and contrast: that the cuddly, comfortable couple were still doing it even as Amos and Edda were figuring out how it worked.

I'm sure she'll get around to reminding us that married life is hot, too.

I'd also thought that scene was between the other couple.
I really like this strip.

Yeah... this is seriously, seriously hot. Words cannot express how pouty I am that there's only one small (and scope-limited) 9CL collection out there. McEldowney's been a favorite for a long, long time.

That's pretty much the same type of strip ("word for word" as it were) he did for the honeymoon of Francis and Diane (the former priest and former nun, those that don't know it) that got married last year.

Interestingly, I was going through the (incomplete) archives looking for something recently. It's amazing to me the depths that this strip can pull at my hear strings.

A succubus, a fairy escaping her given role in life (the title character), an oversized house fly, a musician/theologian (I think that's what Geoff is) and at the moment, a young computer geek and his sister, who had been caught in a computer simulation with all of the above. comics.com have recently changed their operating procedures so that the entire site is now free, and redesigned.

As a result I've been sitting and rereading the archives for 9 Chickweed Lane. I am in awe.

It's been one of my all time favourites for some time.
