It's Yak Shaving Day!

I took today off on the assumption that I would be a lot more hung over than I am. Omaha got to party; I got to have all of one beer before putting the kids to bed on time became my responsibility.

Given my sober and unscheduled life, I decided this morning that I could get a lot of work done. I set my meditation timer to 90 minutes and...

I now have one very cold yak.

Sigh.

But But but - you never told us YOUR string of subrs leading to your going to the zoo and shaving a yak! That's the most fun part of any such story, how did you get there.

Oh, well, it wasn't a yak in the end. I just sat down this morning to hack on some Django and found that my hard drive was at 96%. I started clearing stuff out, and discovered a pair of TIFF files that I'd gotten a long time ago that needed to be OCR'd. But the OCR library wasn't working, so I called 'emerge' on ocropus, which crashed, and very soon I was running ./configure on libtesseract to figure out what wasn't getting built correctly and reading the C++ implementation to figure out why pure virtual functions that worked with gcc3 weren't with gcc4... at which point I realized I was better off just deleting the tiff files and getting on with my life.
