Bleah. I am still sick. The cold is mostly gone, but I'm still suffering from rolling sinus blockage and an annoying itch in my throat that's not quite a cough, but is also not going away. It's scratchy and painful and I want it to leave me alone. I haven't been to the gym since I had that back spasm, and I'm feeling my laziness with every passing moment.

I'm managing only about 400 words a day. It's going very slowly. I had a brilliant inspiration today that binds Darzi, Jouet and Peren much closer in an examination of what it means to be a person, to be alive, and to have a past, but unfortunately it means going back and re-writing the whole 22,000 word thing (so far), and I haven't even gotten to the great big love scene at the end. I don't know if I'm ever going to get there at the rate these two are going.

And I'm still pushing forward with my to-do manager thingy, learning Django at a furious rate. It turns out to be shockingly... bare inside. And I have to agree with James Bennett's 2006 entry on Django's AJAX support (it's three lines of code). His basic idea is simple: HTML and CSS are the foundations of Web Development. So is Javascript, and if you don't know Javascript in 2008 you have no business calling yourself a "web developer."

And I have a pithy idea linking Bryan Appleyard's accusation that Transhumanists don't take their critics' arguments seriously and the Discovery Institute's current fallback that supernaturalist neuroscience is the Next Big Idea, Monty Python's Argument Sketch, and the logical fallacy known as Special Pleading. But it hasn't quite gelled yet.

But, do you have to listen to Gypsy Jazz while programming in Django.

Take some sudafed or other nasal decongenstant/anti-allergen. The throat itch is likely due to post-nasal drip. Sometimes taking care of the symptoms takes care of the rest.

Whatever bug is going around this fall is a nasty one that seems to want to linger. It was a good two weeks before I felt 100 percent better.
