My mother called today, oh boy...

My mother called today. We've talked a few times about the election. The last time we spoke, she wasn't sure which way she was going to vote. Her boyfriend was thinking McCain.

As of today, they're both voting for Obama. And my mother said the reason was simple: "That woman."

"What was he thinking!?" my mother said loudly. "She's not ready to be president. That decision is crazy. There's no way I could vote for him. I think Obama's going to be much more, I dunno, thoughtful. I don't agree with everything he says he's gonna do but at least I know he'll have thought about it beforehand."

Difficulty with double negatives is not stupidity.

I was in the lunchroom at work a few weeks ago

and a formerly quiet-looking woman burst out, on seeing Palin on screen "Sarah Palin's candidacy is an insult to the women of America!" The other woman sitting at her table agreed vehemently with her.

Maybe someone needs to make a "That Woman" poster, in obvious reference to McCain's "That One". I'm not sure how to make it absolutely sure that the words are meant negatively, though, without the tone of voice that always accompanies it when I hear it.

You could always include a second caption to express that.

"A national walking blonde moment" springs to mind.
"Warning, mobile disaster area."
"Caution, listening can be detrimental to your IQ."
"Bane of women everywhere."
