When the accent gets in the way...
Oct. 17th, 2008 11:22 amThere's a statewide "go to school" PSA running right now on all the radio stations, conservative and liberal, which obstensibly encourages parents to encourage their kids to take the "hard classes," like advanced biology, advanced algebra, and foreign languages. The ad is put together by Know How To Go, which encourages kids to aim for college.
The ad is pretty much a mess, comparing schooling to "the cage of DOOM!" in which your child will face "three of the fiercest subjects ever!" One problem with the ad is that it's worded as if aimed at the kids, which is completely inappropriate placement when opposite Rush Limbaugh or Stephanie Miller.
But more than that, the voiceover actress is awful. She has a fake Bavarian accent that I guess is supposed to be reminiscent of the quintessential taskmistress, but it's straight out of Young Frankenstein, and I swear, every time I hear the ad I hear, "Three of the filthiest subjects..." And that just makes me giggle.
